CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Voters in the Harper Creek and Marshall school districts turned down bond proposals on Tuesday but an operating millage renewal was approved by Pennfield voters.
The $90 million bond question for various projects in the Marshall School District which would have included a new elementary school in Albion was voted down 2,521 to 1,932.
Voters in the district said no to increased millage rates as it would have gone up by one mill to seven mills in Marshall. The territory of the former Albion Public Schools school district would have seen a 4.95 mills increase over the prior year’s levy.
Voters in the Harper Creek School district said no to a bond proposal on a vote of 805 to 470 which would have raised $24 million for facility improvements through a projected increase of six-tenths of a mill.
Pennfield voters approved their six year millage renewal proposal 574 to 246. The proposal allows the school district to continue to levying its current millage which will expire with the 2024 tax levy.
