SPRINGFIELD, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department says a 48-year-old man from Battle Creek walked into a car dealership on Dickman Road in Springfield on Monday afternoon and stabbed himself in the abdomen several times after becoming angry.
The incident happened at about 3:10 p.m.. According to a Sheriff’s Department news release, after enquiring about a vehicle donation, the man became confrontational, and the conversation escalated.
The male then presented an X-Acto knife and stabbed himself. The dealership staff immediately called 911.
Deputies just happened to be in an adjacent parking lot conducting a property check and responded within minutes.
Upon arrival, the knife was secured and the man was treated for his self-inflicted stab wounds. No staff or bystanders were injured in the incident.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and medical staff are seeking mental health treatment for the male.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Springfield and Battle Creek Fire Departments and LifeCare Ambulance Paramedics.
